Drive Type and Motor

The 8500W mounts on the wall beside the door rather than on the ceiling. LiftMaster describes it as a jackshaft type opener that mounts on the right or left side. This layout suits garages with limited overhead room.

The opener runs a direct-current motor for quiet operation. LiftMaster specifies a 24v DC motor. The opener handles sectional doors only, up to 14 feet high or 180 square feet at 850 lbs.

Smart Features and Warranty

The 8500W connects to smartphones without an added gateway. LiftMaster states it has built-in Wi-Fi for smartphone control with myQ connectivity. It also includes integrated battery backup so the door still opens during a power outage.

The warranty favors the motor. LiftMaster provides a lifetime warranty on the motor with five-year coverage on other opener parts.
